Each ending turns to a beginning
As we are ending this year of 2008 many people take time to reflect on the events of the past year and look forward to the new year. This time of reflection should also allow for some insights.
Where did you grow during the past 12 months? Was this a year where some big event changed your way of living and thinking? Did this past year simply bring you normal, day to day changes which slowly evolve your life?
I have found that at least one large change happens to me within a year and the rest of the time is spend side stepping and adjusting to this change. This year brought about major employment adjustments. While I’ve been a life transitions coach for the past six years, my long term experience is in office managing for very large development and construction projects. These projects typically last 2 – 3 years. This year I completed a 3-year contract and have not been able to secure another. This has cause an employment adjustment for me that has proved to be a catalyst to doing work I truly feel has purpose. I now choose to aid others going through employment changes to ease the stresses involved and provide direction so individuals will be able to find their own personal version of right work.
Because I know that I will be looking for a new contract every few years, the idea of making employment restructure is something I am accustomed to. I have discovered, however, that this is not a common trait. Having or desiring to make a change of employment is a scary thing to most people.
During this time of world economic upheaval, more people than ever are having to look for new positions, determine whether to keep going with their present jobs or businesses and even make drastic changes in the type of work they do. Instead of taking the doom and gloom attitude that the media so enjoys exploiting, step back and look for the opportunity.
When the world evolves, as it is now, there is always a great deal of opportunity to be had if we wish to take the time to find it.
