Learning how to make job changes
Knowledge is Power for a Career Transition

Knowledge
To make your career transition easier, I suggest you take some serious time to look at your skills and breakdown of the various things you do in the workplace. Take a look at my previous posts. Did your discoveries surprise you?
Now look at the skills you use outside of your job. How do you manage your home? Are you capable of making repairs and building things or doing mechanical work? What about cooking, organizing, cleaning, blogging, computer debugging, party planning, sports or yard work? Do you volunteer for your son or daughter in school sports or activities?
The point of these questions is to help you see that you have a lot more talent than you probably give yourself credit for. All of these tasks require some level of skill, knowledge and talent which may be transferrable to other types of work. If you are not working with a coach, ask your family and friends what they see that you are good at doing. Record this in your career journal.
YOU ARE TALENTED!
To reinforce how talented you really are, think back to some successful experiences. Make note of these successes, read through them and give yourself a much deserved pat on the back! The process of remembering, writing and reading will reinforce in your mind how well you did and help you to accept your gifts.
It’s vitally important that you acknowledge and own your skills and talents, as this will give you confidence and a better understanding of your strengths, weaknesses, wants and dislikes. This knowledge is the basis for obtaining or creating work that truly ignites your fire!
Learn about YOU
The next step in this process is to review all your skills and successes to see where patterns emerge. Do you enjoy coordinating events or are you better at numbers and research? Do you enjoy physical or mental labor? Are you artistic or pragmatic? Is working on your own important or do you like interaction with other? These suggestions will help you look at yourself from the other side of the mirror. Being confident with your skills and performing work you enjoy, creates a better employee and a happier person overall!
