Staying Positive Through Difficult Change
A wolf must be fed to be strong
As you are out, on what may seem to be an endless job hunt, in a difficult economy, what things are you saying to yourself?
There is an old story about a boy who was attempting to improve his archery, but was not doing well. In frustration, he threw down his bow and exclaimed: “I’ll never be able to do this!” His wise grandfather put his arm around the young man’s shoulder and told him about our personal fighting wolves.
The grandfather explained: “There are two wolves inside your head, they are always fighting with each other. The one wolf is negative and tells you that you can’t do something, you shouldn’t even try. He always tries to stop you from doing your best and from changing.
The second wolf is positive. He builds you up with every thing you try. He tells you to learn and try again. He shines light on your gifts and says you are great! Keep going! So the battles goes back and forth, from one wolf to the other. But only one can win.”
“Which one will win, Grandfather?” asks the boy.
“Ah, it is the one you feed.”

Which wolf are you feeding?
Feed the positive voice. Feed your accomplishments and victories. No matter how small, applaud yourself and all your attempts to grow and better yourself. At the end of your day, take a few moments to review your personal victories and give yourself acknowledgment and praise for them.
I like to keep an index card in my pocket during the day and note things as I succeed in completing them. Sometimes I amaze myself at how many things I am able to do! The note could be something as simple as taking a moment to acknowledge a task you completed. The size of the accomplishment is not important. What is important is that you acknowledge it to yourself. In doing so, your mind will have the opportunity to make new connections to keep you in a positive frame of light!
With our world being a little out of kilter right now, as it realigns itself, it’s easy to get discouraged about your career. Keep plugging on, doing something every day to meet your goals and most importantly, feed the positive wolf. Time has its own way of adjusting and bringing to you what you need. Don’t give up!
