Why it is Important to find Work that is Right for You
I was cleaning bookshelf and came across a book I haven’t opened in years. When I picked it up however, a flood of memories swept over me. The book, “Simple Abundance: A Daybook of Comfort and Joy” by Sarah Ban Breathnach was made very popular by the efforts of Oprah Winfrey. In it are daily thoughts which propel the reader to awareness and gratitude. I read through it and kept my first gratitude journal in 1995. Can fourteen years really have passed already?
This book began my present journey to living with purpose and working with meaning. It changed my perspective on everything. My eyes were opened to the very blessed life I already lead. I realized that, although everything always changes, it’s always good.
A New Perspective On Others
Although this journey has been a long one, it has been filled with a lot of fun. I learned so much about myself and the workings of the universe that I needed to share this with others. And so, I came to be a coach.
Recently, a friend asked why I became a coach. Although I had not consciously contemplated this, my answer came readily. “I coach others because it is painful to me to see how detrimental the having wrong job is to your entire life.”
The words left my mouth and I thought: WOW! That just felt so right!
I went on to explain. When you hate your job, the feelings of irritation, resentment, anger, frustration, etc. spill over into every other aspect of your life. You come home tired and drained, so you don’t treat your family well. You are not enjoying the things that the money you make can buy when you are frustrated all the time. You are not happy with yourself, because you know that you are not performing up to your abilities. Your health is not as good as it could be, the stress that comes from your job is undermining all the good your health program does.
I feel it is imperative for you to define what the right work is for you and take action to begin doing this work for the good of yourself and all those surrounding you. I’ve spent fourteen years striving to discover and build a life that is suited to my inner desires and can help you to do the same. It’s never too late to begin!
