Your New Career is Close!
Your new career may be so close that you could reach out your hands and touch it right now. Yeah, right, you may say. I don’t even know what I want to do for my career. If I knew, I’d be doing it.
Well, here’s a secret to discover what you would be best at: look at your bookshelf. Glance over there and tell me what kind of books and DVD’s you have sitting on the shelf. The things you enjoy watching and reading hold great information about what kind of work you would enjoy. Honest! Let’s look at how this would work.
Suppose you have a lot of Mystery stories – you probably enjoy solving the puzzle and the science of the forensics. Research, the sciences, medical, and reporting might be good fields to investigate.
Action Adventure – probably, you are drawn to the variety of roles, the completion of assignments and risk taking. Entrepreneurship certainly is an adventure, event planning, travel, realty and sales fit this bill.
Human Interest and Romance – it’s all about the relationships for you. Social services, medical, education, therapists and planners rely heavily on building and growing relationships.
Foreign Film and Animation – how creative! The artistic side of you likes to deal with shape, form and color and work in unconventional settings where self-expression is key. Writers, architects and designers, museum and artistic settings, graphics and printing are great places to use your gifts!
Science Fiction – here’s a real mixed bag. Are you drawn to the techno side or the creative possibilities. Progressive thinking is for you. Obviously technology and sciences would provide this. You may wish to temper the conventional side of these careers by leaning toward research and development to be able to use your possibility thinking.
Documentaries and Real Life Stories – you may lean more toward the realistic and conventional side. There is a myriad of places for you here! Construction and mechanics, couriers and transportation, administrative and management, retail, insurance, finance and analysts. Wow, there are some door openers!
The idea is to build on what you enjoy and are naturally drawn to. All the answers you need are already inside of you, it’s just a matter of following the clues to find them. Check out your bookshelf, see what story it is telling about you!
